In 2015, we launched our annual Meals for Christmas initiative, a dedicated effort to serve those experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in the Chicago area. Over the years, this program has grown, now reaching over 300 individuals each holiday season.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we recognized an urgent need to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of transgender and nonbinary individuals—particularly within communities of color. As we witnessed gaps in resources and support, Life Is Work took action, facing numerous challenges to continue reaching transgender and nonbinary people of color on the West Side of Chicago.
In response to a surge of anti-transgender legislation at state and federal levels, we established a Resource Center, an essential space offering critical services for our clients. Many individuals face increasing barriers to accessing basic needs, such as stable housing, healthcare, and reliable income. Our commitment is unwavering as we continue to bridge these gaps, providing vital support to those who need it most.
